DESCRIPTION:

Leyya Tawil's DANCE ELIXIR performs riveting movement that is imbued
with elegant complexity and witty playfulness. Named Top 10
Choreographers to Watch in 2006 by the SF Bay Guardian, choreographer
Leyya Tawil and her musical collaborator Topher Keyes unite for their
41st collaboration, MEDIA - the first section of the Capital Life
Triptych.

The core theme of MEDIA is endurance - the endurance of the human
spirit in the face of overwhelming media messages that fill our
senses and define our experiences. Leyya Tawil and Topher Keyes
confront the omnipresent world of today's information culture. They
have built a powerful, insightful work based on themes and structural
ideas of information desensitization, the breakdown of identity, mass
consumption, and the over-sensory aspects of the information age.
Performed by a cast of 19 artists, MEDIA is an onslaught of movement,
audio, and visual energy designed to mimic the unceasing workings of
mass production.

And yet the heart of the piece is grounded in the power, weight, and
speed of the human body. Leyya Tawil's choreography has a charged,
earthy quality that balances the distant, technological feel of
MEDIA's theme. Keyes organically-sourced compositions also bridge the
technological realm and human experience.
