"SUCKER PUNCH!:" a pre-summer fling blending comedy, circus and beatbox.
A sucker punch is a hit that catches you off guard...especially on a
Monday night! This variety-style event will showcase the HEAVY
HITTERS of the Bay Area! The line-up includes Mina Liccione (MC/tap
stylings), Tim Barsky (beat-box flute), Betsy Salkind (renown comic),
Kitten on the Keys (vaudeville vixen), Tommy "Soulati" Shepherd
(beatbox emcee), World record holder Paul "Dizzy Hips" Blair (hula-
hoops), Aiden Oshea (acrobat), Natasha Kaluza and Jamie Coventry
(clown duo), Safa Shokrai (acoustic bass), SyZyGy (comedy and beats)
as well as a few other suprise upper-cuts!!!!! THIS IS A MUST SEE

FLOAT LIKE A BUTTERFLY, STING LIKE A BEE BIOS:
MINA LICCIONE (producer/mc/tap)
this 6 foot tall physical comedienne has been performing since age
three and choreographing since her early teens. she's been seen in
stomp, the new pickle circus, the beat!, mtv's "the grind", sweet
charity, velocity circus, the hybrid project, yas hakoshima's m&m
theater, cabaret, aids: the made for tv musical, the motion picture
"cradle will rock" as well as numerous international cabarets and tv
spots. some of her choreographic credits include: pippin, martha's
scandalous review, the secret lives of custodians, and bracebridge
dinner theater. she recently received rave reviews for her solo show
entitled "della pancha", is a member of the everyday theatre
ensemble, sings with 69 bombs for birthday girls, will be seen in the
national lampoon's film "the trouble with frank" and is currently
rehearsing for the circus infused musical "1906" which will premiere
at theater 39 this june. mina loves to tap, laugh, percuss and tell
lots of stories.
TIM BARSKY (beatbox flute)
Tim Barsky is a traditional Jewish storyteller and musician who has
also worked extensively in the hip-hop community. A graduate of Brown
University with a degree in Islamic & Judaic religious studies, he
has also studied at the Berklee School of Music, and with the
renowned Chassidic folklorist and archivist Fishel Bresler. He has
worked as a producer for the Providence Black Repertory Company, as a
fire juggler in Dublin Ireland, a street outreach worker for the
state health department of Rhode Island, and as a flutist and
beatboxer with over a dozen b-boy/b-girl (breakdancing) crews
including Ground FX, Fillmore Rocks, & Sisterz of the Underground.
His work has been performed at Julia Morgan Center for the Arts in
Berkeley (2005), Traveling Jewish Theatre in San Francisco (2004),
The Exit Theatre in San Francisco (2003), The Finborough Theatre in
London, UK (2002)and AS220 in Providence RI (1997-2001). In addition
he is a co-founder and lead organizer for The Vowel Movement, an
organization which supports beatboxing in the bay area and beyond. A
community artist with the Hybrid Project at SF's Intersection for the
Arts, and a former artist-in-residence at AS220, he has also been a
guest lecturer at the Royal College of Art, London, a featured
speaker at The American Press Institute, and a beatboxing instructor
in SF juvenile detention facilities.
BETSY SALKIND (renown comic)
Betsy Salkind is an actress, comedian, writer and former drummer for
the PHENOBARBIDOLLS. She is a founding member of the TERRORIST
BRIDESMAIDS (4 comediennes determined to get a second use out of
those dresses), and alumna of the improve troupe GUILTY CHILDREN and
the sketch comedy group THE OTHER WHITE MEAT. She was a staffwriter
for "SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL" and "ROSEANNE" (the sitcom). She was
also a jokewriter for Anthony Robbins. Her stand up career includes
an early banning in Boston, where she performed "The Emperor's
Getting Fucked," a short piece about misogyny, racism, and
viciousness in the comedy clubs. Performed only twice, it caused a
stir in the comedy community and took her for several years into the
world of performance art. Several years later she reemerged in New
York and LA comedy clubs and is a regular at NY's Comic Strip and
LA's Comedy Store, and has appeared on "Girls Night Out," "Stand-Up,
Stand-Up," "ARLI$$," "Pet Shop with Andy Kindler," and the "TONIGHT
SHOW WITH JAY LENO." She has written and performed 3 one woman shows
to date, including "ALL MY LIFE" (the darkest comedy this side of
hope), "MASTER OF SCIENCE" (an irreverent look at science and
scientists), and most recently "ANNE FRANK SUPERSTAR: THE ETHEL
SPILIOTES STORY" (a satire of Anne Franxploitation).
SUZANNE RAMSEY a.k.a. KITTEN ON THE KEYS (vaudeville vixen)
Suzanne has performed in London, Paris, Vienna, Tokyo, Nantes and
Lille(France),New York,Vancouver, Austin, New Orleans,Denver, Los
Angeles, and other amazing cities! She traveled the US and Canada
with Burlesquefest 2003 adding mirth and mayhem as the Musical
Mistress of Ceremonies! In October 2003 she received rave reviews in
Hollywood as the MC for the TeaseOrama Burlesque Convention! She
perked up the audience as the Co M-Cee in 112 degree heat at the
Annual Miss Exotic World Contest for 2004. Her latest romps in Europe
have France begging for more! When Suzanne is not dazzling audiences
at numerous venues she can be found either singing and shaking her
ruffles for the award winning Burlesque troupe The Lollies,
performing as an accordion-playing stilt-walker, roller skating
fairy, ukulele strummin' flapper orHapa Hamole Hula Gal, playing in a
variety of cabaret and 1920's musical duos, Playing Barrelhouse
Saloon Gal Piano and singin' and dancin' with SF's Famous Burlesque
Revue and much much more! Suzanne won the SF Weekly Music Award in
the New Genre/Beyond Catagory for her campy vaudvillian performances
of her kinky cabaret ditties in 2003! At the 2nd Annual NY Burlesque
festival, Kitten won a Golden Pastie Award for being the Biggest
Tease! Suzanne has a diverse list of ambient and interactive costumed
characters to suit any affair! She works exclusively with fabulous
costume designer, Monique Motil of Beach Blanket Babylon fame who
caters to Kitten's wacky whims! Her latest trip to Las Vegas found
her ticklin' the ivories of Liberace's mirrored Baldwin Grand in a
replica of his famous piano ring!! An experience she'll treasure
forever! She can be found at many black tie events playing some of
the best pianos in town. Kitten's serious side finds her playing a
variety of musical styles for benefits, weddings, dinner parties, bar
mitzvah's and MUCH Much MORE! She'a classy or sassy... take your
pick! Her Femme-C Mistress of Ceremonies style is in demand-she kept
the show go go going at Teaseorama 2003 in Hollywood and Teaseorama
2005 at Bimbos 265 Club!
PAUL "DIZZY-HIPS" BLAIR (hula-hoops)
Paul has broken several world records and has appearances in such
major media publications as Time Magazine and King 5 TV. His skill
and finesse with the hoop and other incredible athletic feats he has
performed have gained him much renown in the show circuits. He has an
amazing show presence which captivates his audiences. The shows not
only contains hoop stunts and tricks, but also comic acts and small
skits, guaranteed to bring fun and excitement to people of all ages.
Paul is also a fitness instuctor as well, helping people attain a
program of weight loss and physical endurance.
TOMMY SHEPHERD (beatbox/emcee)
Soulati (aka Tommy Shepherd) is an Actor, Playwright, B-Boy, Rapper,
Drummer, and Beatboxer. He graduated from both the Technical theater
and Actors Training Programs at the Pacific Conservatory for the
Performing Arts (P.C.P.A. Theaterfest). Past credits include Benvolio
in Romeo and Juliet with Shotgun Players, Freddy in Stand-Up Tragedy
and Musical Director for Cinderella at P.C.P.A. Theaterfest, Mickey
Finch/Co-Author/Musical Director of Beatbox: A Raparetta at San Jose
Repertory's New America Playwright's Festival. He was awarded a
commission for the play, Is Life A Dream? in 2001. For the past seven
years he's put his focus into training and mentoring youth in the Bay
Area from Oakland to San Jose to East Palo Alto to San Francisco
where he helped start PARTY! (Perfoming Arts Reaching to Youth) with
Jhoannne Lubet and Felonious: onelovehiphop. Tommy is also an
Executive Officer of Wishbone Entertainment, a production company
promoting underground and under-heard music, theater, and visual
arts. Tommy is currently a Resident Artist at Intersection for the
Arts working as both a performer and educator for the Hybrid Project
which seeks to find a new performance language for artists and
audiences. He loves this game!
SAFA SHOKRAI (acoustic bass)
Safa Shokrai has been in the San Francisco jazz scene for several
years now. Having had the great pleasure to study with the late Ray
Brown briefly, Safa has since gone on to form and participate in
several projects, including Downtown Uproar, Tin Cup Serenade, and
Iron and the Albatross. He has also worked with the theater group
Killing My Lobster on several of their riotously funny projects. Safa
is currently dreaming and scheming of moving to Paris to further
pursue his musical career.
JAMIE COVENTRY AND NATASHA KALUZA (clown duo)
Once upon a time, Jamie Coventry & Natasha Kaluza were separate cogs
in the American money machine. 9-5. Dig? They woke up one morning and
said," You know what, funk this, I'm going to Clown School!" Now
together, their lives are bursting with rainbows as they don the
noble nose in the name of light and laughter, performing and teaching
in the bay area, and beyond. Their three favorite venues are: a
retirement home in Wisconsin, a circus tent in Vermont, and a castle
in Scotland. Jamie and Natasha wish to thank their dog, Pyglet, whose
waggly tail warms their hearts and inspires them to spread love to
the peoples of this good earth.
CALVIN "little hat" LAI (percussionist)
Mr. Lai is a man of many hats - all of them small. He has accompanied
Jamie and Natasha in a number of acts over the past 2 years. He is
especially gifted at the erhu and the zurna, neither of which he will
be playing tonight. You can catch him teaching didjeridoo this summer
in Mendocino. Calvin is also very proud to be Chinese American. Boo-ya
