2006 Streetside Stories San Francisco Youth Films Screening
Wed, May 17
6:00pm-9:00pm

Helping young people to tell true stories about their lives is at the
heart of what we do at Streetside Stories.
During the 2005/2006 school year, Streetside Stories worked with 10
different 7th grade Language Arts classes, an average of 300 students
and their teachers from five different San Francisco public middle
schools: Enola D. Maxwell, Martin Luther King, Jr., Luther Burbank,
Horace Mann and Aptos.
This year's theme was "Choices." We started off each workshop by
asking the students "What's an important choice you've made in life?"
The students began freewriting about this important choice and
developed it into a script. They were then recorded narrating their
story.
Next, they drew pictures and brought in photos from home. Laptop
computers were brought in and the students were taught how to edit
together their story in i-Movie, adding visual and sound effects,
titles and credits. Each student worked hard to produce a 1-2 minute
movie in a total of 20 hours. Sample movie titles include:
1) My First Time Going to Juvenile Hall
2) That the Fish Swim Free
3) The Drug
4) Memories
5) My Future Career
6) The Fire
7) Staying Up Late with My ill Mom!
8) The Punishment
9) Television or Chores
10) The Car Accident
11) Heeley Experience
12) My Cat is Better Than Yours
Please join us for our 2006 Tech Tales DVD Screening of 60 original
