This Saturday marks the first poetry night for the Speakesy Reading =

Series, a monthly literary series at the Bazaar Caf=E9 in San =

Francisco, 5927 California Street at 21st Avenue.

Start your Saturday evening off right. The show begins at 7 pm and =

features these incredibly talented Bay Area and San Jose-based poets: =

Don Brennan, Kate Evans, Alan Soldofsky, and Christopher Woodward.

Don Brennan
Don Brennan's work has appeared in several journals, including Haight =

Ashbury, Minotaur, The Great American Poetry Show, North Coast =

Review, The Throwback, Arnazella, Sacred Grounds Anthology, and Other =

Side of the Post Card (City Lights Anthology). Winner of the 2000 =

Haight Ashbury contest, Don has published four books of poetry, and =

currently hosts the Bibliohead reading series in San Francisco.

Kate Evans
Kate Evans's poetry collection, Like All We Love, will be released in =

June 2006 by Q Press (the-q-press.com). Her poetry, stories, =

and essays have appeared in such publications as the North American =

Review, Santa Monica Review, Cream City Review, Indiana Review, and =

Harrington Lesbian Fiction Quarterly. She is the author of a book =

about lesbian and gay teachers, Negotiating the Self (Routledge), and =

has recently completed a novel (For the May Queen) and a collection =

of stories (Flirting with Rosie). A semi-finalist for the Pratt =

Institute Prize in Poetry, and a finalist in the New Voices Poetry =

Contest, she has also been nominated for two Pushcart Prizes. She =

teaches at San Jose State University.

Alan Soldofsky
Alan Soldofsky has published three chapbooks of poems: Kenora =

Station, Staying Home, and most recently a chapbook that includes a =

selection of poems by his son, the poet Adam Soldofsky, Holding =

Adam / My Father's Books. He has published poems widely in magazines =

and academic journals including: The Antioch Review, The Georgia =

Review, The Gettysburg Review, Grand Street, The Michigan Quarterly =

Review, The Nation, The North American Review, and Poetry East. His =

articles, essays, interviews, and book reviews have appeared widely =

in periodicals including: Chelsea, Contact II, Ironwood, Jeffers =

Studies, Narrative, Metro Newspapers, Poetry Flash, Quarry West, and =

The Writer's Chronicle. He recently published an essay titled "The =

Lyric Self: Voice and Authenticity in Contemporary American Poetry" =

in the May-June issue of The Writer's Chronicle. He lives in San =

Jose, California, and is a professor of English and Creative Writing =

at San Jose State University, where he directs the MFA Program in =

Creative Writing.

Christopher Woodward
Christopher Woodward is Editor of Which Press and serves on the Board =

of Directors at the Richmond Art Center, chairing their Curatorial =

Committee. He has been published in journals around the country, =

including Southern Poetry Review, Mid-American Review, Dominion =

Review, and others (not all of which contain the word "review" in =

their title). He has taught writing at the Rochester Institute of =

Technology and Bowling Green, where he won the Franklin Devine =

Fellowship in poetry and published his first chapbook, From the =

Field. This will be his first public reading in over ten years.
