Faith, Folly, and Revelation
Fri, May 5 - Sat, May 13
8 PM
$12-$20
Faith, subjectivity, and the power of individual choice is the theme
of the evening at "Faith, Folly, and Revelation," a new production by
Right Brain PerformanceLab, Spinning Yarns Dance Collective, and
Apryl Renee. United by the central theme, each artist will premiere
original pieces that delve into the fundamental questions of belief
and choice. Such ashelliphow do we make choices that ultimately lead
to either prejudice or acceptance? What is the difference between a
personal commitment that narrows and blinds compared to a commitment
that opens one's eyes?
Inspired by such wide-ranging sources as Dr. Seuss, The Book of Ruth,
and The Book of Revelation, the artists tell stories, develop
variations on the source material, and confront our preconceptions in
order to illuminate new understanding about these pressing questions.
The evening starts off with a light tone that harkens to the
imaginative world of young children. Apryl Renee's Trope of Seuss is
a loving rendition of Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss. Trope of
Seuss juxtaposes the familiar narrative with a story of a young
girl's desire to have the book read to her repeatedly, leading to a
game of yes and no, and imaginary flights of fancy. This piece is
suitable for young audiences over the age of 6.
