Bare Bones Butoh is a new performance evening for local and
International artists to try out new material, show works in process,
hone improvisation chops and redo or revisit previous material.
Hosted by a veteran group of Bay Area Butoh performers, Bare Bones
Butoh employs the grassroots ethic of working together to sustain
their artistic culture.

The audience pays a minimal fee and thus far in its brief history
Bare Bones Butoh has acted as fundraising platform that supports
local Butoh and Performance Artists. Bare Bones 1 was held to raise
money to support a local artists tour to Japan with resident Butoh
Masters, Koichi and Hiroko Tamano. The revenue from Bare Bones 2 was
donated to a couple to support their home birth. Bare Bones 3 is a
fundraiser for local Butoh performer and Duncan dancer, Christina
Braun to help cover her medical expenses from a broken foot. Bare
Bones Butoh is community building and performance smushed together
into two evenings.
