Actor Danny Glover, a San Francisco University graduate who still
maintains a residence in the city, will speak at the San Francisco
Women's Film Festival's closing night screening of "Missing In
America" by filmmaker Gabrielle Savage Dockterman.

The film is a contemporary story of a Vietnam veteran (Glover) who
has lived in self-imposed exile in the Pacific Northwest for more
than thirty years and is haunted by memories of lives lost under his
command. A former member of his platoon (David Strathairn of "Good
Night, and Good Luck") unexpectedly appears at his remote cabin, only
to vanish overnight, leaving behind his young, half-Vietnamese
daughter (child actress Zoe Weizenbaum, whom Dockterman discovered
after considering hundreds of girls across North America, and who
went on to play young Pumpkin in "Memoirs of a Geisha"). Linda
Hamilton ("Terminator") and Ron Perlman ("Hellboy") also play
supporting characters.

Two years before Glover read the screenplay, his brother, who was a
Vietnam veteran, died of lung problems attributed to exposure to
Agent Orange in Vietnam, similar to the character played by
Strathairn. Although Glover was not a veteran himself, he had a deep,
personal commitment to the film. "It represented a job as an actor
for me, but it also represented much more than that within the
framework of what had to be done and how this film needed to respond
to what had occurred," said Glover.

The film has already won a number of awards from other film
festivals, including the Monaco International Film Festival, where it
won the Angel Awards Trophy for best film and awards for "Best Actor"
for Danny Glover, "Best Actress" for Zoe Weizenbaum, and "Best
Director" for Dockterman.
