Efflorescence: botanical photographs by Angela Drury

Angela Drury, an emerging Bay Area fine art photographer, has
received numerous awards for her botanical and architectural
landscapes. For the past few years Angela has photographed flowers
around the world and throughout the gardens of the Bay Area. From
this came the Efflorescence series.

Most of her images are photographed in nature and not in the
controlled environment of a studio. Her florals are painstakingly
photographed using a macro lens with an extremely narrow area of
focus. The shallow field of focus creates an intimate, sensual and
personal feeling. The colors are bold and saturated adding an
exotic, vivacious dimension to the photographs. They seem more like
intimate portraits than simply photographs of flowers.

Angela began photographing flowers as a challenge in composition - to
create something new from something so often photographed. What
started as an exercise in form and color has become an obsession with
discovering the secret world that exists within each blossom.
