"Crime Wave: Law Enforcement Films
From San Francisco and Beyond"
Screens at Oddball Films
On Saturday, April 15th Oddball Films presents "Crime Wave: Law
Enforcement films from San Francisco and Beyond" at Oddball Films,
275 Capp St in San Francisco. Showtime is 8:30. Admission is $10.00
(RSVP, Limited seating).
"Crime Wave" examines our cultural fascination with crime in all its
forms from
the 1956 reality based TV program "Parole" where the viewer gets a
ringside seat at real Parole Board hearings(and verdicts) held at
San Quentin to the
stupifying police demonstration(on a real person!)in 1968's "The Use
of Mace".
Many of these films were shot in San Francisco and the Bay area as
training and educational("social guidance") film tools. Additional
home movies, TV news outtakes and footage shot by news stringers
provide us with a raw and unadulterated look inside crime scenes,
staged reenactments, riots and demonstrations and law enforcement in
action. At once brutal and hilarious, methodical and senseless "Crime
Wave" shows us the surreal side of law enforcement.
Highlights include:
"Parole" (1965, B+W) Reality based TV series shot on location inside
San Quentin Prison.
"36" Baton" (1970, B+W) Watch the SF Police Dept demo as they pummel
a dummy perp!
"The Use of Mace" (1968, Color) Tested live on a real human volunteer-
it burns!
"Beat Patrol and Observation" (Color, 1965) Shot on location in
idyllic(!) Richmond, Ca.
"Physical Evidence Gathering and Analysis" (Color, 1972) Crime scene
methods.
"Inmate Body Searches" (Color, 1980) Checking for contraband.
"San Francisco Bombing" (Color, 1970) Notorious SF Police Dept Park
Station bombing.
"Capp Street Sting"(Color, 2001) Watch a vinyl clad decoy take down
would be johns.
Plus! Riots, home movies, news stringer outtakes and Patti Hearst!
