Rova:Arts is the organization founded by Rova
Saxophone Quartet to curate and sponsor
performances of new music and related arts.
Tonight's benefit is sponsored by the Board
of Rova:arts and all proceeds from tickets go
directly to help more musicians to make
more MUSIC.
Included in the ticket price is buffet dining and
one glass of wine or beer AND the amazing
performances described below.
The movies rely on music heavily to color an
actor's performance. Even silent movies were
never silent when shown. Tonight we mute the
movies and invite several local musicians to take
over.
Bruce Ackley (saxophone)
Ben Goldberg (clarinet)
Aurora Josephson (voice)
Carla Kihlstedt (violin) & Matthias Bossi (perc)
Jon Raskin (saxophone)
will play live solos and duets to create their
own parallel spontaneous improvised tracks to
brief excerpts from feature films.
In an homage to the silent-era skill of communicating
only with the face, the excerpts feature non-dialog
moments of expression processed near to abstraction
to draw out the subleties of the actors' art.
What'll be shown is a players' choice from a
grab-bag of scenes featuring Joan Crawford,
Humphrey Bogart, Naomi Watts, Greta Garbo,
Nicole Kidman, Monty Clift, Victor Mature,
Sigourney Weaver, Monica Vitte, Dracula
and many others.
Venue:
