Thursday, April 13

7:30PM - 10:30PM

Jeremy Tagle Bautista is a writer and performance artist who explores =

the fields of street poetry, hip hop emceeing, interpretive movement, =

martial arts and guerilla theater. A voice of critical urgency, his =

work addresses issues of working class struggle, Philippine and =

Filipino-Amerikan identity, inner city liberation, revolutionary love =

and spiritual compassion. Yadira De La Riva was born and raised in El =

Paso, Texas and is passionate about performance art; working in =

music, dance, theater and poetry since she was tiny. At UC Santa =

Cruz, she acted, directed and produced performances in various =

multicultural and political theater groups and trained with community =

theater organizations that include Theater of the Oppressed in =

Brazil, the San Francisco Mime Troupe and most recently, Intersection =

for the Arts' summer Alternative Theater Institute.

Blood Thick Wound, an original duo performance by Yadira De La Riva =

and Jeremy Tagle Bautista, creatively weaves the elements of =

movement, theater, poetry and music into a dynamic short play. =

Taking place in the aftermath of the great earthquake of California, =

two spirits retrace the dislocation of their histories and physical =

realities. Multiple characters are introduced to engage in battles =

against gentrification, immigration laws and the imagining of the =

future of 2016. How to rebuild a new reality by searching for the =

essence of one's inner truth is the question at hand in "Blood Thick =

Wound". Original music produced by Saint().
