David Remnick
In conversation with Elizabeth Farnsworth

In 1998, David Remnick was named Editor of The New Yorker after ten
years as a celebrated staff writer. Only the fifth editor since the
magazine was founded in 1925, Remnick was a seasoned New Yorker staff
writer prior to his selection. Known for his narrative journalism,
Remnick is highly regarded for his work as an investigative
journalist, biographer, and a most attentive and innovative editor.
Prior to his tenure at the New Yorker, he spent ten years as a staff
writer for The Washington Post, including four years as the paper's
Moscow correspondent. His Pulitzer Prize-winning book "Lenin's Tomb"
captured the collapse of the Soviet Union as experienced by its
populace and politicians. His vast social knowledge and cultural
fluency in modern Slavic history led to "Resurrection: The Struggle
for a New Russia," an exploration of the new order under Boris
Yeltsin. Remnick most recently compiled "Reporting: Writing from The
New Yorker," a collection of recent and past New Yorker essays. He
is also the author of the highly praised biography "King of the
World: Muhammed Ali and the Rise of an American Hero."
