Ira Flatow
In conversation with Jerry Kay
As host of NPR's "Talk of the Nation: Science Friday" and a veteran
radio and television journalist, Ira Flatow has shared his passion
for science, technology, and the environment with public radio
listeners for more than 30 years. His interest in science began as a
child in New York where he was, by his own description, "the
proverbial kid who spent hours in the basement experimenting with
electronic gizmos, and then entering them in high school science
fairs." Flatow began reporting for WBFO-FM Buffalo while studying
for his engineering degree at the State University of New York in
Buffalo. Covering health, technology, and the environment, Flatow
communicates an insider's understanding of all things scientific with
an outsider's curiosity and enthusiasm for discovery. He twice
received the American Association for the Advancement of Science AAAS-
Westinghouse Science and Journalism Award and is the author of the
highly acclaimed books "Rainbows, Curve Balls, and Other Wonders of
the Natural World Explained" and "They All Laughed . . . From Light
Bulbs to Lasers: The Fascinating Stories Behind the Great Inventions
That Have Changed Our Lives." A board member of the National
Association of Science Writers, Flatow is currently exploring new and
better ways to bring science news to television and the Internet.
