ABAD=C1-Capoeira San Francisco (ACSF) will present Spirit of Brazil: =

Dan=E7as dos Guerreiros, the fourth installment in ACSF's highly =

acclaimed Spirit of Brazil concert series.

The Dan=E7as dos Guerreiros (Warrior Dances) Festival will present the =

traditional Brazilian genres of capoeira, jongo, and maculel=EA. Unique =

to Brazil, these three folk dance and music forms are linked by their =

origin on slave plantations in Portuguese-colonized Brazil. "Dan=E7as =

dos Guerreiros" will emphasize the shared African traditions that =

shape and define each of these traditional arts.

As a specific study of art forms created under circumstances of =

extreme oppression, Dan=E7as dos Guerreiros will provide an inspiring =

view of art, empowerment, and expression created in the face of =

incomprehensible hardship. "Dan=E7as dos Guerreiros" has particular =

significance because of its ability to demonstrate the message of =

resistance and resilience that has carried these art forms into the =

21st century.

Spirit of Brazil: Dan=E7as dos Guerreiros will be presented in =

conjunction with the San Francisco International Arts Festival.
