"Dancing with the Stars" comes to Stanford
TV dance professionals Jonathan Roberts and Anna Trebunskya will
perform at Stanford's dance competition.
On April 8th, 2006, over 300 competitors of all ages, backgrounds,
and levels of experience from all across the west coast will converge
on Stanford campus for the seventh annual Cardinal Classic Ballroom
Dance Competition hosted by the Stanford Ballroom Dance Team (SBDT).
The event features a day of intense competition at levels ranging
from newcomer to championship, in 25 different dances including
Waltz, Tango, Cha cha, Salsa, Samba, Foxtrot and Quickstep just to
name a few.
While the competition is an all-day affair beginning at 9AM with the
beginner competitors, the dance floor really heats up in the evening
session. Spectators can look forward to seeing top dancers from
universities and dance studios from all over the west coast going toe-
to-toe for first place and a $100 scholarship. The evening will
culminate in a sizzling Latin showcase by dance professionals
Jonathan Roberts and Anna Trebunskaya, from ABC's hit series "Dancing
With The Stars." Anna danced with Jerry Rice and took second place
while Jonathan danced with Giselle Fernandez during the second
season. U.S. National Rising Star Professional Latin Champions
In addition to the featured showcase, this year's Cardinal Classic
will present an impressive line-up of exhibition performances. The
evening's guest performances will include some of Stanford's popular
student dance groups in jazz, salsa, hip-hop, and social dance, The
evening will also feature the Oakland-based dance troupe Salsa Mania,
and a performance by East Palo Alto Middle School, who are currently
learning ballroom dance in a program initiated by members of SBDT,
inspired by the recent documentary Mad Hot Ballroom.
SBDT is excited to bring the thrill of live competition to Stanford
with the Cardinal Classic and inspire those would-be dancers.
Spectator tickets for the evening are available at the door for $10.
To raise funds to support this event, the team will hold a silent
auction of items totaling over $5000 at the competition. Items
include private dance lessons with Jon and Anna as well as Charlotte
Jorgensen from season one of Dancing With The Stars. Other prizes
include a variety of gift certificates to local businesses, dance
shoes, custom ball gowns, autographed photos, and private dance
lessons with 20 of the country's leading dance professionals right
here in the bay area. All proceeds are tax deductible For more info,
