Micro to Macro--- Mold, Mud and Other Threats: Bill Daniel & Dana
Tue, Mar 28
Closing Reception for Bill Daniel: Katrina Dust & Dana Hemenway:
Sending out Spores.
Bill Daniel (b/w photo murals and video) and Dana Hemenway
(installation and embroidery) present work dealing with issues of
domestic security, protection, and ecological threat.
Bill Daniel's documentary photos were shot on a trip to New Orleans's
devastated lower 9th Ward in December. On the wall are high contrast
mural prints of the freakish wreckage of a neighborhood that had one
of the highest rates of African American homeownership in the
country. A video clip also surveys the scene: Common Ground activists
gutting a house, interviews with residents, and endless pans of
debris piled in front of houses as returning families gut their
houses, creating block-long mounds of molding furniture and household
goods.
Dana Hemenway's window installation creates the tranquil environment
of a living room, however a monstrous-looking mold is gradually, and
perhaps aggressively attacking a comfy chair. Pretty embroideries
hanging are not of nice flowers or song birds, but of microscopic
images of molds, including several toxic species.
This event is all ages and free and open to the public.
