Elusive Materials Exhibition Opening

On the occasion of Langton's 30th year an investigation began to mine
the archive, exploring documentation from past projects, ephemera,
and publications accumulated over the course of three decades. The
exhibition, Elusive Materials, mirrors and departs from Langton's
archive, presenting the work of artists who have contributed to
Langton's history, and whose own practice involves an archival drive.

Elusive Materials presents artists' works that follow an impulse for
gathering information and making inventories that range from the
personal to the collective. The artists in this exhibition work with
concepts spanning from utopian to pragmatic, from the mundane to the
culturally critical. Their practice involves a form of compiling,
accumulating, and classifying information over a specific period of
time. The works in this exhibition touch upon a desire to fight
oblivion. The artists collect and recover objects and information,
creating a systematic structure of classification and interpretation.

Elusive Materials features work by seminal figures in Langton's
history as well as presents a younger generation of artists. The show
includes works by Eleanor Antin, Douglas Huebler, Colter Jacobsen,
Nina Katchadourian, Lynn Hershman Leeson, Antonio Muntadas, Maria
Nordman, Martha Rosler, Allen Ruppersberg, and James Tantum.
