Subtle Meditations Opening Reception

The Art Gallery presents Subtle Meditations, an exhibition of work by
Bay Area native Shannon Amidon. Her art consists of altered,
distressed and hand painted photographic prints that involve various
aspects of what she finds beautiful in nature.

Amidon takes her appreciation for the natural sciences and turns it
into an expression unlike most fine art pieces. Her work is described
as photo-based mixed media and alternative process photography, and
often involves textures and objects the artist has found in nature
ranging from butterflies to starfish, peacock feathers to flowers.

Using techniques such as photographic Xerox transfers, Amidon
combines the naturalness of photography with the imagination of art
to create unique pieces that reflect the mysterious and natural
world. It is her intention to blur the lines between fine art and
traditional photography by manipulating, layering and merging
photographs. Amidon breaks through boundaries of traditional media
and conventional fine art by creating an experience that goes beyond
the paintbrush and camera.
