Matthew Barney Screening and Conversation
Mon, Mar 13
7:30pm
Free. Seating will be very limited, priority given to SFAI students
Considered to be one of the most important artists of his generation,
Matthew Barney has expanded monumental art into cinematic forms as
well as sculpture. Best known for his series of visionary and
sometimes viscerally perverse films, Barney's The Cremaster Cycle
combines the American landscape, the human body, escape artists, and
deco skyscrapers. The sequence became a massive internationally
touring solo exhibition in 2002. For this event at SFAI, Barney will
screen his 55 minute film, DE LAMA LAMINA, which was shot during
Carnival in Salvador, Bahia in 2004 with the participation of Arto
Linday and his band and the Cortejo Afro Drum Group. Following the
screening Barney will have an open question and answer session with
the audience. Matthew Barney: Drawing Restraint 9, an exhibition of a
recent film and related works will be on view at SFMOMA from June 23
through September 17, 2006.
* Seating for this event will be very limited and SFAI students will
be given priority. Students can pick up their tickets from the
Student Affairs Office beginning March 1. Staff and Faculty can pick
up their tickets from the front reception desk beginning March 1.
