Helmut Draxler and Stephan Geene Give Public Arts Lecture

Helmut Draxler is an art historian, art critic, and curator. As =

Director of the Kunstverein M=FCnchen, he has curated exhibitions of =

the work of Stephan Dillemuth, Andrea Fraser, Group Material, Martin =

Kippenberger, Louise Lawler, Christian Philipp M=FCller, Adrian Piper, =

Christopher Williams, and Heimo Zobernig; film programs with Yvonne =

Rainer, Trinh T. Minh ha, and Jef Cornelis; and the thematic =

exhibition The Utopia of Design. He is currently a professor at Merz =

Akademie and co-leader of the Department of Theory. His publications =

include Die Arena des Privaten, Die Utopie des Designs, and =

=D6ffentlicher Raum.

Stephan Geene founded the performance/video project minimal club =

(with Sabeth Buchmann) in the 1980s. In 1989 minimal club started the =

yearly magazine A.N.Y.P. in Munich and later moved to Berlin. He has =

worked as a curator in Shedhalle Z=FCrich, Kunstverein Munich, in =

collaborations with botschaft e.v. + b=FCrobert. Since its founding in =

1996 Geene has been involved with b_books, a book shop and meeting =

space in Berlin, and since 1998, a publishing house. Geene's recent =

film project after effect has just been finished. He works at the Jan =

van Eyck Academy in Maastricht with Sabeth Buchmann and Helmut =

Draxler on the project Film, Avantgarde and Biopolitics.
