Yugen Presents: Corpus Delicti & Black Stone Ensemble
Fri, Mar 17 - Sat, Mar 18
8:00pm
$15, $10 students/seniors
Yugen Presents series features "Disaster Series" by Corpus Delicti
(Los Angeles) and "Myopia" by Black Stone Ensemble (San Francisco)
An Evening of Butoh-based Dance Performance
In "Disaster Series," Corpus Delicti is caught in the upheaval and
surge caused by natural and man-made disaster (tsunami, hurricanes,
and war without endhellip). Originally presented as a 2-hour outdoor
endurance piece, this theatrical presentation will condense the
nautical calamity into a 40-minute multimedia maelstrom.
Corpus Delicti is a Los Angeles based performance company born out of
the historical mass movement to oppose the U.S. Empire. Corpus
Delicti transforms the spirit of resistance to Butoh dance/theater as
it brings forth the "body of evidence." (www.corpusbutoh.org)
"Myopia" explores the poignant absurdity of urban alienation. Black
Stone Ensemble uses the stark, visceral language of Butoh dance,
physical comedy, and classical theatre techniques to play with the
psychodramas we create in sidelong glances across subway cars.
Featuring live music by members of Nanos Operetta, Lord Loves a
Working Man, Rococo Risque, and Tango #9.
Founded in 2005 as an experimental performance laboratory, Black
Stone Ensemble creates moving, restrained, filmic, absurd, and
surprising trans-disciplinary performances.
This event is wheelchair accessible.
