A.R. Gurney's Love Letters

Thu, Mar 2 - Sat, Mar 25
8pm

$20-$30

The classic WASP-culture bittersweet romance, Love Letters, will be =

twisted with a new, queer staging featuring Pippi Lovestocking, Donna =

Sachet, and Matt Weimer. While sticking to the original script of =

correspondences between wealthy friends, sexual ambiguity adds new =

layers to the high-society roles.

Executive Producer, Matthew Quinn considers the results of the new =

staging. "Drag can be costume of any kind; the original characters =

had to flirt through their high-society fa=E7ades. We're just looking =

at that costume from a new angle, which brings out current cultural =

themes."

But Quinn still balances reverence for the original material. =

"There's still a respect for traditional works, but our respect also =

allows for the fact that we are all different. These characters are =

deep. We think this casting just adds another level to Love Letters."

Normally performed with local or national celebrities, the iconic =

rotating cast of Pippi Lovestocking, Donna Sachet, Matt Weimer fits =

that tradition. Lovestocking is a performer and emcee for Q Comedy, =

sometimes as non-drag persona Scot Free, and has hosted The Miss =

Trannyshack Pageant; Sachet holds a dozen awards, including a Cable =

Car Entertainer of the Year, and served as a Grand Marshal for the =

2005 SF Pride Parade; while Theatre Rhinoceros veteran Weimer has =

performed in San Francisco and toured nationally for fifteen years. =

Award-winner Richard Ryan, most recently of David Sedaris's Santaland =

Diaries, directs this staging, jointly produced by C.A.F.E. and Lila =

Theatre.
