Andy Warhol's CAMP

Sun, Feb 5
TWO SHOWS 7:00PM and 9:00PM

$8 / $5 reduced

SF Camerawork and San Francisco Cinematheque present:
FAME AS FORM, Program 1
two screenings (7pm & 9pm) of Andy Warhol's

CAMP (1965, 16mm, sound, 67min)
FOUR OF ANDY WARHOL'S MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMEN
(1964-70,16mm, silent, 16min.)

Susan Sontag wrote "Notes on Camp" in 1964, which
put performance of identity on the road to high culture.

Warhol's 1965 rejoinder, "Camp," features Mario Montez,
Gerard Malanga, Baby Jane Holzer, singer Tally Brown,
legendary modern dance artist Paul Swan, pioneer
performance artist Jack Smith, and others in a variety
show format put on in the foil festooned Factory.

Malanga emcees and recites poetry, Tally Brown imitates
Yma Sumac, Paul Swan dances, and Smith's
over-the-top minimalism is just short of a refusal to
perform that implies camp is not a pose or a praxis,
but a way of life.

The short film "Four of Andy Warhol's Most Beautiful
Women" is an version Warhol's constantly mutating
series "The 13 Most Beautiful Women." and is made
up of 4 of Warhol's well-known Screen Tests.
