The Greater Circulation a new feature film by Antero Alli

This is a cinematic treatment of Czech poet Rainer Maria Rilke's epic
lament, "Requiem for a Friend" (the Stephen Mitchell translation)
that I have incorporated into a story involving an experimental
theatre project in Berkeley that staged Rilke's text as a performance
ritual (this actually happened and is included in the film) and
flashbacks to a hotel room in Paris of 1908 where Rilke wrote his
"Requiem" over two fevered nights. In the Paris sequences, Rilke has
these fullblown hallucinagenic dreams that inspire his writing,
however, these dreams include impressions and images from the present
day performances in a kind of dream within a dream way. The reality
of dreams and how they act on our conscious waking lives has always
fascinated me, especially those influences that carry on from the
dream world into the creation of art, poetry and cinema. In my own
dreams, I have been shown that the only art that comes from
"conscious mind" is dead art. I will attend this event at 21 Grand
to discuss these ideas after the screening for those interested.
