Exploratorium Floor and in the Rafters
Special Live Performances, Films, and One-Night Installations for the
Opening Event on February 3, 2006, 7-9pm
Our experiences of objects depend heavily on our understanding and
expectations of the materials from which they're made. This often
occurs without conscious thought. Until we encounter such objects as
a Hummer made of Styrofoam or a pterodactyl made of car parts. This
exhibition draws attention to the invisible interaction between
object and substance by creating works from unusual or unexpected
materials. On the night of February 3, the whole museum will be
filled with performances, films, and additional one-night-only
artworks that further comment on the subtler and more abstract
relationships objects have with the materials of which they're made.
