Family. Fidelity. Fatherhood. Fertility. Fairy tales. These are just
some of the f-words invoked in Ragged Wing Ensemble's second
offering: SPLINTERShellipAND OTHER F-WORDS, a new play by Andrea L.
Hart. Ragged Wing's premier, THE SERPENT, was hailed by the East Bay
Express as "a solid offering from an intriguing new company that
promises to add some juice to the East Bay theater scene" (Feb.
2005). Using the fairy tale THE SNOW QUEEN by Hans Christian Anderson
as a backbone, SPLINTERS delves into the murky world of familial
bonds and betrayals. Through a nonlinear sequence of fantasies and
memories, SPLINTERS juxtaposes the fairy tale with a contemporary
search for happiness in relationships. With live sound mixing, video
projection, stilt-walking, and original music, SPLINTERS explores the
connections between Anderson's The Snow Queen and the problems of an
increasingly frozen, modern society dictated by frenetic schedules,
demanding careers, and lightning-speed technology. The cast includes
Keith Davis, Mateo Hinojosa, Mariah Howard, Lauren Pizzi, Amy Sass,
Anna Shneiderman and an ensemble of young actors from local middle
and high schools. Original score by Kent Blodgett. Set design by
Sarah Samonsky and DJ Whelan. Costumes by Rachel Crothers.
