Youth Speaks MLK Poetry Slam

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. used words to fight racism and
segregation. On this holiday honoring him, Youth Speaks continues his
legacy of language with a night of teens and young adults slamming on
the inequalities and discrimination they experience today.

generation of poets, artists, visionary activists, and cultural

2006 officially rings in Ten Years for Youth Speaks, and as anyone
would expect, it's going to be incredible. We kick it off with our
9th Annual Bringing the Noise for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. event on
Monday, January 16, and to accommodate our ever-growing celebration
of social movement through language, we've moved the event from the
Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Forum to the Theater, expanding
capacity to 700 poetry fans. With your help, this event WILL SELL
OUT! So get your tickets now at www.ybca.org or call 415 978 ARTS.

Included in this year's Bringing the Noise Festival is a social
justice Words as Weapons Summit to honor and further investigate the
struggle and legacy of Dr. King through the perspective of today's
generation of cultural activists. For information about the Words as
Weapons Summit happening Friday, January 13, please visit
