Springer-Croke Fine Art announces an exhibition of paintings by
Marcine Franckowiak from December 28 through February 15, 2006 at San
Francisco's City Hall. The show will be celebrated with an artist's
reception on Friday evening January 20, 2006 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The paintings are hung in the Mayor's Budget Office, Room 288.

The exhibit of Franckowiak's work is a thought-provoking display of
inventive cultural imagery. Marcine Franckowiak is a woman obsessed
with popular culture. Her work reflects a preoccupation with hip-hop
and the influence reality shows and endless music television have on
contemporary society.

Repetitive images of pimp cups, bling, expensive wheel rims, rappers
with gold grills and pit bulls are arranged in kitschy chaos vs. real
time and space. She uses oils in a traditional and painterly manner
with contrasting graphic stencils that give her paintings an edge.
Inspired by the works of Ed Ruscha and James Rosenquist, she believes
an artist should reflect their time. "I aspire to keep my work
echoing what is going on in popular culture now and what will be
going on twenty years from now" Franckowiak notes.

The exhibit has already caused a stir and invited comment for its
depiction of pit bulls and hip-hop culture imagery. Asked if the
show was problematic for the mayor's office, Mike Farrah, senior
advisor to the mayor stated "isn't that in part what art is supposed
to do?"
