Tori-no-Ichi Festival
Sun, Dec 11
2:00pm-5:00pm
$5 adults/ kids free
In the spirit of the Japanese shrines at this time of year Theatre of
Yugen has commissioned some amazing local artists, to make unique,
one-of-a-kind kumade (or rakes) to bring good luck (and good wealth)
in the New Year to our friends and supporters. These non-traditional
New Year's good luck rakes decorated by local artists will be
showcased in a silent auction from 2pm to 5pm. The breadth of rakes
is astounding with a "Bear Hand Kumade" by Diana Krevsky, and a
"Sonic Rake" by The House of Zoka, as well as kumade by Sue Higo,
Nancy Hom, Risa Dye, Rose Zilber, Barbara Eaton, and many more . . .
a list too long for this list! (Check our website for all the artists.)
We are honored to have Shinto priest Kawahastu attend to bless this
event, which in addition to a silent auction will also include a make-
your-own rake center, food and drink (including Gekkeikan Sake), and
a performance of the Kyogen comedy Persimmon Mountain Priest in
English, with experimental Noh dances to modern renditions of
Christmas music by Connie Francis and Ella Fitzgerald.
