A fun, upbeat gathering of edgy and contemporary performers -- some
well-known, others new at the game. It's an all-ages show, populated
with talented, spunky lights.
Performers scheduled so far include:
Donald Currie -- his theatre group/commune called The Gestalt Fool
Theatre Family performed at the Fillmore Auditorium with the Greatful
Dead. Out of the Gestalt Fool he formed a musical group called Don
and Pilar which toured the state for five years and broke up when
Donald started Western Onion Singing Telegrams. Donald returned to
writing and performing with a one man show called "Sex and Mayhem"
which he performed at New Conservatory. He has since performed in
"Beautiful Child" and "The Philanderer" at Theatre Rhino. Tonight he
will be performing two new short pieces: "Bend Over, Buddha" and
"Harvey, honey!"
Jon Sugar. Jon was the lead vocalist in his eponymous band, called a
faggot by Eddie Money, arrested for running a house of prostitution
in 1981, recorded the first hip hop queer single "Gay Type Thang" in
1984, KFPA radio personality, fag-bashing incident landed Sugar in
Time Magazine in 1987, "Bad Boy of San Francisco Comedy" says David
Lamble, "Funny storytelling" says Armistead Maupin, "Edgy,
hysterical" says John Fisher, "Crazy funny" says John Embrey of
Drummer Magazine. His new CD "Jon Sugar's Greatest Shit" available

Do you want to perform too? Gay Artists and Writers Kollective seeks
musicians, stand-up comics, poets, bands, audiophiles, DJs, etc. for
this and upcoming events. This event is at Magnet, 4122 18th Street
