Set against the harsh landscape of South Africa, HBO Films' Yesterday
is an eloquent, unsentimental film that tells the tale of a South
African mother, Yesterday, who is diagnosed with AIDS and must
journey afar to understand her illness. Yesterday has set her sights
on a single goal: to be with her daughter Beauty on her first day of
class, along with the other proud mothers. The first international
film ever made in the Zulu language, as well as South Africa's first
Oscar-nominated film, Yesterday is a story of compassion and hope,
set in contemporary South Africa, ten years after the arrival of
democracy.
