Echo de Pensees Sound Series
in conjunction with
The Museum of Viral Memory and PLAySPACE Gallery

presents live performances by
Joe Colley and Kenneth Atchley
at PLAySPACE Gallery.

Joe Colley, for many years, has been regarded as one of the world's
finest sound artists. His recent compositions double as
installations, including the amplified sound of clay dissolving in
water, and the sounds of six piezos generating feedback as they sit
before oscillating fans. These recordings are not only intriguing
theoretically but satisfying to the ear.

Often working with very simple equipment but with an ear like very
few, Colley constructs intriguing audio events where sounds chase
each other, consume each other, and leave trace elements of
themselves along the way to be permutated, discarded, or destroyed.

Known also as Crawl Unit, Colley has spent ten years exploring the
multiple conceptual possibilities of sound, through music production,
installations, and collaborations with video artists, dancers, and
even prisoners.

For Colley's Echo de Pensees performance all we can tell you,
excitedly if briefly, is that he has requested a copy machine for the
performance.

K. ATCHLEY's fountain, laptop, and video performances have been
featured in venues ranging from U.S. hardcore-noise dungeons and New
York dance lofts, to art galleries and the performance-cellar circuit
of Europe. His current repertoire includes laptop arrangements of
"Valhalla Chill" and ?14251.?

A profile of Atchley and his work appeared in the June, 2005 issue of
The Wire (UK). The composer and his performance-fountains will be
featured in Tim
Perkis' upcoming film "Noisy People."

Atchley's CD of solo, electro-acoustic noise "Fountains" was released
by Auscultare Research. The score for one of his fountains was
recently published
in the book SoundVisions (2005, Germany).

On Sunday, December 11th, a performance of de Quincey Levitation--his
absorptive work for video, voices and electronics--will be presented
by San Francisco Cinematheque at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in
San Francisco, CA.
