Objection Overruled! An Art Reception

Wed, Nov 2
6pm to 8pm

free

October 15, 2005 - January 14, 2006

"There is no abstract art. You must always start with something.
Afterward you can remove all traces of reality. There is no danger
then, anyway, because the idea of the object will have left an
indelible mark." -- Picasso

RSVP: (415) 673-3080 or online

Polarity Post Productions, 69 Green St., San Francisco
Open to the public: M - F: 9am - 5pm

This is a non-thematic exhibit highlighting the range of styles
between DADAISM and 'REPRESENTATIONAL ABSTRACTION' (i.e., GESTURAL
WORK, MONTAGE/COLLAGE, DADAISM, SURREALISM, POP ART, FAUVISM, CUBISM,
ILLUSTRATIVE, FIGURATIVE ABSTRACTION, ABSTRACT PHOTOGRAPHY, to name a
few)

The implication of Picasso's declaration is that non-objective work
exists a full range of styles, from dadaism to 'representational'
abstraction, that do not completely, or at all, subjugate reality to
referential status. In the realm between realism and pure
abstraction an artist may transform the subject matter by
manipulating its lines, form, color or context (in essence
'overruling' its natural state) but the essence of the 'indelible
mark' remains. - Matt McKinley, Curator, ARTworkSF
